Description

The UNESCO list includes four Polish towns, two monasteries, one castle, the museum of extermination camp, a monument of technology and a primeval forest.

In a millennium old Cracow you'll see the fully preserved medieval buildings of the old town. Cracow is the seat of one of the oldest European universities- Jagellonian University, set up in 1364. Also the royal castle in Cracow - the Wawel, seat of Polish Kings and rulers from 10th till 16th century is an example of a UNESCO monument. Other UNESCO sites in Poland include the sanctuary of Marian cult in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, the biggest gothic fortress in Europe - the castle of Teutonic Knights in Malbork and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum of Extermination.
Other places available to visit that are listed in the UNESCO monuments comprise the longest-running in the world enterprise - the Salt Mine in Wieliczka, the city of Warsaw, the city of Torun - the home town of Nikolaus Copernicus, "The man who stopped the sun and moved the earth", the city of Zamosc - a Renaissance pearl built according to Italian models. Last but not least, there is also the Bialowieza primeval forest among the UNESCO distinctions - the largest natural forest area in Europe.
